At last after a long struggle I got the net connection. I brought a Huawie EC325 USB data card from Reliance yesterday.
Yesterday I was told that the card will get activated in one and half hours. So I went home and configured my laptop.
I didn’t got the IP which I should get. As of my nature I became nervous. My device got detected PPPO got started, but
no IP at all!
Let me tell you the things that I did to configure in my laptop(To be honest Spoonmans blog had helped me).
I am using Debian Etch in my laptop and the Kernel version is 2.6.18. So I was very sure that my device will get detected
with the vendor and product ID. You can get it by doing:
Now check whether you have a usbserial module. If you have it then please insert usbserial module as shown below:-
modprobe usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0×1001
I got the vendor id as 12d1 and product id as 1001 from the /etc/proc/usb/devices file.
If the exit status of this command is 0 then your usbserial module is loaded. Its been a long time I loaded a kernel
module. I was so happy. It also reminded me the days in IC Software!!!
Now please do check whether you have 2 device files :
If its not there please do create it by using:
mknod /dev/ttyUSB0 c 178 0
mknod /dev/ttyUSB1 c 178 1
Now its time for you to edit the /etc/wvdial.conf file:
Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0
Baud = 115200
SetVolume = 0
Dial Command = ATDT
Init1 = ATZ
FlowControl = Hardware (CRTSCTS)
Username = username ; Mostly the username and the password will be your mobile number
Password = *******
Phone = #777
Stupid Mode = 1
Inherits = Modem0
Use the command :
If your card is activated it ends up by giving you an IP.
Reliance guys told me that my card will be activated yesterday but they didn’t. Today they told me that they will
activate it. But a clause was there -: “You have to use Windows machine”. The guy in the reliance officewas a mallu( From Kerala) so I told him -: “I don’t know how to use it!!! Please do a favour for me do the things necessary for me so that I could use my card directly. I don’t want to spent my time in Windows.” Now its working perfectly.
Again you will have to use remote IP as the default route!!!
To make the surfing little faster add OpenDNS. Enjoy!!!!
Feeling good that after a long time I did something good for me!!!
Waiting for next hike to get another gadget to have another technical article in my blog!!!
I couldn’t controll my emotions when I load a module into the kernel. Hope my guru could understand it!!!
